Why Open Source Software / Free Software (OSS/FS, FOSS, or FLOSS)? Look at the Numbers!
This paper provides quantitative data that, in many cases, open source software / free software is equal to or superior to their proprietary competition. The paper examines market share, reliability, performance, scalability, scaleability, security, and total cost of ownership; it also comments on non-quantitative issues and unnecessary fears.

I've started using DNSControl for configuring DNS for my personal domains and it's been delightful. Declarative DNS! I get comments (the DSL is just JS), history (it's in git) and trivial rollback! I've switched my DNS provider to Hetzner (which is free!) to use this.

Is Forth really a memory-unsafe language? I'm struggling to picture what e.g. a use-after-free would look like in such a minimal programming language.

RISC-V seems like a great example of "commoditise your complements". If you're getting value higher in the hardware or software stack, a royalty-free ISA is valuable. Creating an ISA is a ton of work. Once it's basically viable, it creates interesting opportunities.
