Shower thought: I can't remember the last time I had to wait for something whilst surfing. On a 56k connection this was common, but pipes today are much fatter and buffered streaming with adaptive rates is the norm. Big downloads still happen, but casual surfing is different.

The vast majority of libraries have a single maintainer. Even if you weight by downloads, roughly half of downloaded libraries have a single maintainer too.

The Register recently published a story titled Putin on the code: DoD reportedly relies on utility written by Russian dev. They should be ashamed of this story. This poor open source developer is getting beat up now to score some internet points. It’s very upsetting. But anyway, let’s look at some receipts. If you’re not real smrt, it seems like pointing out an open source project is written by one person in a country you don’t like is a bad thing. It could be. But it also could be the software running THE WHOLE F*CKING PLANET is written by one person. In a country. But we have no idea which country. It’s not the same person mind you, but it’s one person.

I'm surprised by how many different weather forecasts I can get out different apps. Surely there aren't many API providers for weather predictions? Alternative conspiracy theory: do weather apps that predict nicer weather get more downloads?

Which Rust libraries are the most "business-y"? A fun analysis that compares weekday download rates with weekend downloads: https://old.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/nsvyxq/what_are_the_most_professional_crates/ checked_int_cast is used more on weekdays, whereas cpp_syn is used more at weekends. Not sure what to conclude there.
