Choosing the right amount of content to put on each docs page is surprisingly hard.
I've seen info/man pages as a single large HTML page and it eventually slows down the browser. A short page with a short scrollbar is less intimidating and you're more likely to read to the end.
Today I learnt that Scheme (1975) is actually older than Common Lisp (1984)! I'd assumed that Scheme designs were a response to CL.
Many of the CL features were created earlier, in fairness. CL was standardising the feature set.
Perhaps the biggest driver of docs success is prestige. How cool are the docs tools, and how proud are you to have contributed to the docs?
Which tools do this best? Racket docs look pretty great, for example.
