This seems quintessentially Emacs: deeply hackable, but building UI features in an order very different to the mainstream.
When writing long-lived programs (daemons etc) in Rust, I find myself asking *where* I should put data.
In a GC'd language it's just "I have a string" but Rust forces me to find somewhere to put it.
You do get a performance benefit for this work though.
Text to speech systems seem to have largely avoided the uncanny valley effect. I've encountered robotic sounding voices but it's way less unsettling than bad CGI.
I'm not sure why this is. Maybe looking at faces is just way higher bandwidth so more things can go wrong?
