A nice improvement in Emacs 26.1: the manual explains the exact difference between syntax-ppss and parse-partial-sexp:

* doc/elisp/syntax.texi (Position Parse): Note, twice, that syntax-ppss is equivalent to parse-partial-sexp from the beginning of THE VISIBLE PART OF the buffer. Final part of the fix for bug #22983.

The Smalltalk Blue Book https://stephane.ducasse.free.fr/FreeBooks/BlueBook/Bluebook.pdf is great (introduces the language, explains usage) but also has this cute mouse explanation!

Wow, Pharo has resumable exceptions! Explains why 'define method and continue' just works. (CL was the only lang I was aware of with this.)
