JSON is a good format. It's a shame it doesn't support comments or dates (without hacks), it could have been a great format.

The idea of providing a standard JSON format to help students write basic passes is really elegant.
WebAssembly seems like a totally reasonable bytecode format, but I've not had many opportunities to use it so far.
