I've been compilation buffers in Emacs recently and I really appreciate the error and warning counts shown in the modeline. I've added the equivalent feature to deadgrep: it shows result counts! Really useful when you're doing big refactorings. https://github.com/Wilfred/deadgrep

Further tinkering with diagnostics, following feedback! * Two lines of context above and below now. * The caret is included in the line below where possible. * Syntax highlighting of keywords. I kinda feel that smart context sizing would be better. What do you think so far?

One interesting design choice in Emacs that I haven't seen in other editors: reserved shortcuts. An Emacs extension shouldn't use F5 through F12, or Ctrl-c LETTER. I miss it in VS Code, where e.g. all the Fn keys are already assigned.
