I've given up migrating my VPS hosts to newer distro versions. Instead, I'm trying to rebuild a new host with the newer distro version. I'm slowly making all my server config reproducible and automated as a result :)

Looking at how my servers update themselves and the recent Copy Fail vulnerability, I'm considering an automated weekly restart to make sure services and kernels are up to date. It'd also ensure that services are correctly configured to start on boot. Any thoughts? Feels crude.

Could you build an entirely automated open source project? For example, suppose you're trying to make the fastest gzip library. You could write a bot that automatically accepted and released any pull requests that improved the benchmark! No human intervention needed at all.
