I'm gradually transitioning to helm.It's possible to get a 'big minibuffer' style UI, and the filtering is nice even if you've mastered ido.

I'd love too see this UI paradigm be pervasive. The ribbon in office is helpfully contextually, but text lists with filtering scale superbly.

* focused UI. By not using compilation-mode, there's no superfluous symbols or duplicated filenames shown.
* easy filtering. It's easy to change case sensitivity, search type, file type, etc from an existing search.
* minimum keystrokes. If you have an active region, it's a single keystroke (no directory or file type required).
Today's HN article linking to Phrack has revealed that my mobile ISP has decided to start filtering 'adult content'. Hmph.
