Perhaps all links should have a tooltip with a preview of the content. I'm struggling to see a downside.
We moved from double- to single-clicking links, why not make the site/browser do more work before clicking?

One striking downside of string interpolation is that accurate syntax highlighting becomes much harder.
It's very easy to add some form of nesting, which breaks the "simple lexer" approach to highlighting.
