Do compilers ever transform pairs of malloc/free? E.g. in a loop:
p = malloc(32);
foo(p);
free(p);
In principle this doesn't need to be allocated on the heap.

I've come to realise that the goal of a diff tool isn't to say what's changed. You want it to say what *hasn't* changed.
Unchanged content is crucial for deciding how to group changes into hunks and how to align lines. You need matched content pairs for this.
You can even get smart Rubik's Cubes now! It pairs with bluetooth, and of course there's a corresponding app that gives you feedback.
